On Sunday, Elena Kostioukovitch joined the Ukrainian community in Rome for a march marking the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence. The event reaffirmed a long-standing commitment to supporting Ukraine, following previous initiatives calling for a No-Fly Zone, Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, and greater protection for its people.
During the demonstration, the “No-Fly Zone” banner symbolised the continuation of this commitment. An appeal for the immediate adoption of a “Protective Shield for Ukraine” was also formally submitted to leading Italian and European institutions. The proposal calls for European air-defence systems deployed along NATO’s eastern flank to intercept Russian drones and missiles before they can strike Ukrainian cities, civilians and energy infrastructure, while also strengthening the protection of European airspace.
